Key Points
In Week 38 (September 18–24, 2023), the third week of the new school year (mainland France and the French West Indies), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children (+9%, or 2,303 more visits) and remained stable among adults.
The increase in medical procedures linked to seasonal respiratory indicators continues:
All ages for ENT conditions (+19%, or 4,324 more visits), influenza/flu-like illness (+30%, or 493 more visits), bronchitis (+16%, or 437 more visits), and asthma (+20%, or 251 more visits);
Among children under 2 years of age, for bronchiolitis (41%, or +75 procedures)
Procedures for suspected COVID-19 continued to rise among adults only (+19%, or +599 procedures) and stabilized among children.
Among children, in smaller sample sizes, there was also an increase in cases of conjunctivitis (+12%); more specifically, among 2- to 14-year-olds for chickenpox (+38%) and vomiting (+7%), and among children under 2 years of age for allergies (+7%) and viral syndrome (+5%).
Regarding mental health indicators, among those aged 45–64, there was an increase in procedures—albeit in small numbers—for depressive states and anxiety (respectively +6% and +21%, or +14 and +13 procedures).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations in the monitored indicators were observed. Note: six visits related to this event were recorded by the SOS Médecins associations (Grand-Est, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur regions).
