SOS Médecins National Newsletter, September 16, 2024
Key Points
In week 37 (September 9–15, 2024), following two weeks of moderate increases, activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose sharply among children under 15 (+35.5%, or +7,187 visits). It remained stable among adults.
During the second week of the new school year, the overall increase in activity among children was driven by respiratory conditions. In particular, the sharp rise in cases of asthma attacks continued among children aged 2–14 (+122%, or +464 cases), with a share of activity (3.4%) exceeding that of the previous three years for the same week.
We also note among children under 15 a rise in procedures for upper respiratory tract conditions (+70%, or +5,936 procedures), bronchitis (+90%, or +563 procedures), viral syndrome (+54%, or +176 visits), bronchiolitis in children under 2 years old (+163%, or +111 visits), and among 2- to 14-year-olds for influenza/influenza-like illness (+82%, or +219 visits) and suspected COVID-19 (+73%, or +148 visits). The levels observed for these indicators remain similar to those of previous years.
Among adults, there was also an increase in procedures for respiratory conditions: asthma attacks (+38%, or +206 procedures), upper respiratory tract conditions (+23%, or +2,372 procedures), bronchitis (+25%, or +481 visits), and among those aged 15–74, influenza/influenza-like illness (+42%, or +540 visits) and suspected COVID-19 (+38%, or +508 visits).
Outside of respiratory conditions, there was also a slight increase in cases among 2- to 14-year-olds for gastroenteritis (+10%, or +129 cases) and trauma (+10%, or +52 cases).
