SOS Médecins National Newsletter, September 12, 2022

Key Points

In week 36 (September 5–11, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children under 15 (+26%, or 4,330 procedures), remained stable among those aged 15–74, and decreased among those aged 75 and older (-7%, or 396 procedures).

Medical procedures for ENT conditions, asthma attacks, and acute gastroenteritis increased across all age groups, but more markedly among children in connection with the start of the school year. Among children (particularly those aged 2–14), there was an increase in procedures across all indicators, notably for asthma attacks (+82%, or +173 procedures among those under 15, with a doubling of procedures among 2–14-year-olds: 343 in S36 vs. 171 in S35) and anxiety (+69%, or 18 cases).

Medical visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise across all age groups after 8 consecutive weeks of decline: a total of 2,113 visits (vs. 1,796 visits in Week 35) were recorded (a 16% increase vs. a 10% decrease in Week 35). This increase mainly concerns children (+68% among those under 15). At the regional level, SOS Médecins medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in most regions, with the exception of Corsica, Martinique, and Occitanie. Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 447,232 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.
