Key Points
In Week 20 (May 13–19, 2024), activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children (down 11%, or 3,108 visits) and among those aged 75 and older (down 20%, or 1,611 visits).
Among the trends observed, the following stand out:
among adults aged 15–74: an increase in gastrointestinal symptoms such as gastroenteritis (+13%, or +353 cases) and vomiting (+20%, or +51 cases), as well as, to a lesser extent, cases of general malaise (+19%, or +33 cases);
among children under 15: an increase in cases involving trauma (+15%, or +92 cases) and abdominal pain (+24%, or +97 cases).
Indicators for asthma attacks and allergies are down across all age groups in week 20 (down 21% and 11%, respectively).
Furthermore, procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been on an upward trend for several weeks across all age groups, continuing into week 20 (+41% across all ages, or +133 procedures). The levels observed remain lower than those of previous years during this period. This increase is accompanied by a slight rise in visits for influenza/flu-like illness among children aged 2–14 (+12%, or +37 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+7%, or +87 visits).
Finally, mental health indicators are also on the rise, with a 19% increase in cases of anxiety across all age groups (equivalent to 228 additional cases) and a 61% increase in cases of depression among those aged 15–44 (equivalent to 79 additional cases), at levels comparable to those of previous years.
