Key Points

In Week 19 (May 9–15, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among 2- to 14-year-olds (+21%, or +2,293 visits) and remained stable in other age groups.

  • After four weeks of decline and one week of stabilization, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are once again down across all age groups. In total, 826 procedures (vs. 896 in Week 18) were recorded across all age groups (a decrease of 8% vs. 2% in Week 18). Among 2- to 14-year-olds, there was an increase in a small sample size (+17%, or +25 cases), stabilization among children under 2, and a decline among 15- to 74-year-olds (-12%, or -77 cases) and those aged 75 and older (-28%, or -16 cases). At the regional level, procedures for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in three regions (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Hauts-de-France, and Île-de-France), stable in Occitanie, and declining in the other regions.

  • Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 344,248 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

  • Among other indicators, the following are observed:

    • All ages: an increase in medical procedures for indicators related to weather conditions: allergies (+27%), heatstroke (4x higher among children and 3x higher among adults), and insect bites (+28%), as well as trauma to a lesser extent (+6%).

    • Among children: an increase in procedures for most indicators with the start of the school year across all regions. The sharpest increases were seen in chickenpox (+39%), infectious conjunctivitis (+36%), as well as respiratory conditions (bronchiolitis in children under 2, asthma, ENT conditions and bronchitis in 2- to 14-year-olds, ranging from +19% to +30%) and isolated fever (24%) in 2- to 14-year-olds.

    • Among adults: an increase in visits for abdominal pain (+11%) among those aged 15–74 and for falls (+33%) among those aged 75 and older.
