Key Points

In Week 05 (January 31 to February 6, 2022), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups for the third consecutive week.

Cases involving suspected COVID-19 are down for the second consecutive week. A total of 5,514 cases (vs. 7,347 cases in Week 4) were recorded (a decrease of 25% vs. 18% in Week 4 and an increase of 8% in Week 3). These cases are down across all age groups: -30% among those under 2 years old, -25% among those aged 2–14 and 15–74, and -9% among those aged 75 and older. Suspected COVID-19 remains among the most common conditions in children (3rd) and adults (2nd). At the regional level, procedures are down in all regions except Corsica (+28%, or +25 procedures). The sharpest declines are observed in Normandy (-30%, or -127 procedures), Brittany (-35%, or -104 procedures), Grand-Est (-35%, or -277 procedures), and Hauts-de-France (-35%, or -414 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 320,836 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among seasonal indicators, we note an increase in procedures for gastroenteritis among those aged 2–14 and 15–74 (+10%, or +183 procedures, and +6%, or +170 procedures, respectively), bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age (+11%, or +19 cases) and influenza/flu-like illness among children under 15 years of age (+19%, or +146 cases, while remaining stable among adults). Across all age groups, influenza-related cases accounted for 4% of SOS Médecins’ activity in S05, compared to 15% in S05-2020. We also note an increase in cases of heart failure (+32%, or +46 cases) and various cardiac issues (+36%, or +48 cases) among adults aged 75 and older.
