SOS Médecins National Newsletter, December 24, 2012

Over the past week, activity at SOS Médecins clinics has remained stable across all age groups nationwide, with case numbers slightly higher than those for the same period in the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons. Flu diagnoses are on the rise nationwide and in the regions across all age groups (+35%, +1,170 cases), with numbers comparable to the 2010–2011 season; this trend is similar to what is observed in the emergency departments of the Oscour network. Among children under 2 years of age, bronchiolitis diagnoses are down (-26%) for comparable numbers to the 2011 season for the same period. The gastroenteritis indicator is stable over the past week, for numbers higher than in 2011 for the same period. Measles diagnoses have remained low for several months. The number of deaths reported by SOS Médecins has remained stable over the period and is comparable to 2010–2011 and 2011–2011 for the same period. The main conditions encountered across all age groups are ENT conditions, respiratory conditions (+14%), and gastroenteritis. Among those over 15 years of age, there was an increase in ENT conditions (otitis and nasopharyngitis, up 27% and 19%, respectively) and respiratory conditions such as bronchitis (up 27%) and influenza (up 63%).
