Key Points

In Week 33 (August 12–18, 2024), due to the long weekend of August 15, activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 (+13%, or 1,899 visits) and adults (+9%, or 4,364 visits) and remained stable among children under 2.

Most seasonal indicators are on the rise. We note an increase in cases across all age groups for insect bites (+23%, or +213 cases), allergies (+21%, or +244 cases), as well as for heatstroke among 2- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 74-year-olds (respectively +28% and +41%, or +11 and +31 cases). After two weeks of decline, cases of whooping cough are rising again among 2- to 14-year-olds and adults (+21% and +26%, or +37 and +54 cases), but remain stable among children under 2. Regarding other respiratory conditions, notable increases across all age groups include procedures for upper respiratory tract conditions (+16%, or 2,794 more procedures), among those aged 15–74 for bronchitis (+23%, or 261 more procedures) and for suspected COVID-19 (+13%, or 129 more procedures), and among those aged 75 and older for pneumonia (+19%, or +41 cases). There was also an increase in cases of asthma attacks among 2- to 14-year-olds and adults (respectively +30% and +8%, or +41 and +30 cases).

Among other indicators, the following increases are noted:

  • gastrointestinal conditions among children and adults under 75, with an increase in procedures for gastroenteritis (+13%, or +483 procedures) and among children under 2 for vomiting (+18%, or +174 procedures);

  • in children, dermatological conditions (+15%, or +58 procedures) and cases of impetigo among 2- to 14-year-olds (+64%, or +207 procedures);

  • among adults, urinary tract infections (+16%, or +363 cases) and deaths among those aged 75 and older (+10%, or +32 cases).
