Key Points
In Week 35 (August 30–September 5, 2021), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups. Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups declined for the third consecutive week (-21% vs. -18% in Week 34). In total, there were 4,586 visits (vs. 5,814 in Week 34, a decrease of 1,228 visits) with a lower share of activity (1.5% vs. 1.9% in Week 34). This decline is observed across all age groups. Among children under 2 years of age, this decline is -29% (vs. -5% in Week 34) and the hospitalization rate is down (25% vs. 32% in Week 34). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups remains stable at 47%. At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are down in all regions except Mayotte (+300%, or +3 visits). Since the start of surveillance on February 24, 2020, 548,444 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded. Seasonal indicators are stable or declining, with observed levels similar to or even lower than those of previous years. There has been a slight increase in visits for asthma among children (+8%, or +58 visits). Among the most common conditions, there has been an increase in visits for abdominal pain and bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age, though the numbers remain low (respectively +21%, or +27 visits, and +18%, or +55 visits).
