Key Points
In Week 35 (August 26–September 1, 2024), visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits increased among 2- to 14-year-olds (up 5% and 7%, respectively, or 2,619 more visits) and remained stable in other age groups.
Most seasonal indicators are stable or declining. This is particularly true for pertussis visits, which are down among children (-24%, or 54 fewer visits) and stable among adults.
Among the increases, the following visits stand out:
Among children and adults (aged 75 and older) for suspected COVID-19 infection (up 19% and 9%, respectively, or 64 and 50 visits) and isolated fever (up 7% and 9%, respectively, or 110 and 31 visits) among children under 2 years of age only;
Among children for asthma attacks (+20%, or +185 visits), malaise (+19%, or +69 visits), and among 2- to 14-year-olds for trauma (+9%, or +1,459 visits) and abdominal pain (+7%, or +90 visits);
Among adults for dehydration (+13%, or +39 visits), among those aged 15–74 for heatstroke (+86%, or +30 visits), vomiting (+9%, or +106 visits), and among those aged 75 and older for stroke (+7%, or +101 visits) and chickenpox (+4 visits).
Regarding mental health, there was an increase in suicidal acts among those under 15 years old (+12%, or +14 cases).
