Key Points
In Week 37 (September 8–14, 2025), the second week of the new school year, the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits increased compared to the previous week among children (up 19% and 17%, respectively, or 12,839 visits and 1,228 hospitalizations) and remained stable among adults.
Visits related to respiratory indicators continued to rise, particularly among children. Notable increases were observed for:
asthma in children under 15 (135%, or 1,968 visits) and in adults (+24%, or 248 visits)
ENT infections in children under 15 (+58%, or 2,689 visits) and in those aged 75 and older (+32%, or 42 visits);
suspected COVID-19 infection, at levels comparable to previous years, among children under 15 (+43%, or 156 visits) and among adults (+29%, or 224 visits)
bronchiolitis in children under 1 year of age (+125%, or 309 visits).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits among children for suicidal behavior (+31%, or +45 visits) and for isolated fever (+17%, or +434 visits), and among those aged 2–14 for trauma (+13%, or +2,693 visits).
There was also an increase in visits related to digestive disorders: for nonspecific abdominal pain among 2- to 14-year-olds (+13%, or 303 visits), and among children under 2 years of age for vomiting (+13%, or 50 visits) and for gastroenteritis (+5%, or 49 visits).
