In Week 35 (August 24–30, 2020), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits decreased slightly across all age groups (by 5.4%, or 19,496 visits, and by 2.1%, or 1,374 hospitalizations, respectively, for all ages). Over the past week, the number of visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable among children. It increased by 11% (i.e., +262 visits) among adults for the fourth consecutive week (2,709 vs. 2,447 visits in Week 34—consolidated data as of September 1, 2020). The share of visits for COVID-19 in total activity across all age groups has risen slightly (1.03% in Week 35 vs. 0.88% in Week 34), while the proportion of hospitalizations following a visit remains stable at 30%. The increase is observed in several regions. Four regions stand out: Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+43%, or +65 visits), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+31%, or +70 visits), PACA (+26%, or +88 visits), and Île-de-France (+14%, or +108 visits). Since the start of surveillance on 02/24/2020, 188,589 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded. The majority of seasonal and non-specific indicators are declining across all age groups. The only notable increases are in visits for asthma attacks (+21%, or +138 visits) among children and bronchiolitis, though the numbers remain low.
