Key Points
In Week 40 (September 30 to October 6, 2024), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups, except for hospitalizations following visits among children under 2 years of age, which rose slightly (+4%, or +110 hospitalizations).
Continuing the trend from the previous week, the main respiratory indicators remain stable (influenza/flu-like illness) or are declining: pertussis (-28% among children), which remains at a high level across all age groups; suspected COVID-19 (-16% across all age groups); and asthma attacks (-10% across all age groups), which remain at a high level among adults. Indicators showing an increase include pneumonia in children under 2 and those aged 75 and older (up 26% and 11%, respectively, or 33 and 250 visits) and acute bronchitis in those aged 75 and older (up 14%, or 47 visits), at a higher level than in previous years.
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits for vomiting among children aged 2–14 (+6%, or +41 visits).
