Key Points
In week 40 (September 29–October 5, 2025), the number of emergency department visits rose slightly among children aged 2–14 (+6%, or 3,530 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits are also on the rise among children under 15 (+7.5%, or +587 hospitalizations) and remain stable among adults.
Visits related to respiratory indicators continued to rise compared to the previous week, though numbers remained within the levels observed in previous years. Notably, there was an increase in visits:
across all age groups for acute bronchitis (+12%, or +163 visits) and asthma attacks (+8%, +370 visits),
among children for influenza/flu-like illness (+19%, or +38 visits), for bronchiolitis in children under 1 year of age (+16%, or +134 visits), and among 2- to 14-year-olds for ENT conditions (+10%, or +466 visits) and pneumonia (+16%, or +37 visits),
among adults, for suspected COVID-19 (+21%, or +303 visits), pneumonia (+6%, or +231 visits), and dyspnea/respiratory failure in those aged 75 and older (+11%, or +197 visits).
Regarding gastrointestinal conditions, there was an increase in visits among children for gastroenteritis (+9%, or +201 visits) and vomiting among 2- to 14-year-olds (+9%, or +54 visits).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in visits among children for conjunctivitis (+8%, or +22 visits), isolated fever among 2- to 14-year-olds (+7%, or +89 visits), neurological disorders (+14%, or +115 visits), and urinary tract infections among children under 2 years of age (+16%, or +39 visits). Among those aged 75 and older, there was also an increase in visits for cardiac decompensation (+14%, or +186 visits).
