Key Points
In Week 42 (October 17–23, 2022), emergency room visits and hospitalizations increased among children under 2 years of age (up 13%, or 3,777 visits, and up 16%, or 4,989 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.
Seasonal respiratory indicators continue to rise among children, while they remain stable or are declining among adults. Notably, among children, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis (+23%, or +149 visits), asthma (+20%, or +670 visits), influenza, flu-like illness (+24%, or +56 visits), pneumonia (+33%, or +286 visits), and, to a lesser extent, ENT conditions among 2- to 14-year-olds (+7%, or +746 visits). Among children, there was also an increase in visits for isolated fever (+20%, or +956 visits) and cough (+19%, or +323 visits) among those under 15, and general malaise among 2- to 14-year-olds (+11%, or +67 visits). Visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable.
Among children under 2 years old, visits for bronchiolitis continued to rise (+42%, or +1,328 visits, and +39%, or +412 hospitalizations).
Among adults, with the exception of visits for influenza/influenza-like illness, which rose slightly among those aged 75 and older, other indicators were stable or declining.
