Key Points
In Week 41 (October 10–16, 2022), emergency department visits and hospitalizations increased among children under 2 years of age (up 9%, or 2,355 visits, and up 14%, or 498 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.
Seasonal respiratory indicators continue to rise, more markedly among children than among adults for influenza/flu-like illness (+28% among children vs. +12% among adults), acute bronchitis (+20% vs. +10% among adults), asthma and ENT conditions, though less markedly than in previous weeks (up 14% and 7%, respectively, vs. stable among adults).
Among children, all indicators—except for gastrointestinal and trauma cases—are on the rise, with a continued increase in visits for bronchiolitis (up 46%, or 934 more visits, and up 47%, or 332 more hospitalizations), showing a more pronounced trend over the past week than in the previous season, cough (+14%, or +212 visits), isolated fever (+11%, or +475 visits), and suspected COVID-19 (+8%, or +29 visits).
Among adults, other indicators are stable with the exception of visits for suspected COVID-19 among those aged 75 and older (+13%, or +274 visits; hospitalization rate following a visit remains stable at 66%), dehydration among those aged 75 and older (+21%, or +27 visits), isolated fever among those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +90 visits), and suicide attempts among those aged 65 and older (+24%, or +26 visits).
