Summary
During week 41 (October 9–15, 2017), all-cause activity and hospitalizations following outpatient visits increased among children (by 3.4% and 6.1%, respectively). They remained stable among adults.
Seasonal conditions remained stable or declined among adults, with the exception of visits for fever alone (+11.2%). Among children, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+10%, or +221 visits), asthma attacks (+10.5%, or +186 visits), and bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (+14.7%, or +155 visits), conjunctivitis (+6%, or +19 visits), as well as for gastroenteritis (+11.7%, or +109 visits) and allergies (+30.5%, or +40 visits) among children under 2 years of age. The share of seasonal conditions in overall activity remains generally consistent with that observed in previous years across all age groups, with the exception of visits for ENT conditions among adults, which are slightly higher than in the two previous years.
Apart from seasonal conditions, the most common conditions are generally on the rise among children under 2 years of age. In particular, there has been an increase in visits for urinary tract infections (+17.8%, or +41 visits). Among adults, the most common conditions are all stable or declining.
