Key Points

  • In week 39 (September 23–29, 2024), emergency room visits decreased among those under 15 years of age (-7%) and remained stable among those 15 years of age and older (+2%). Hospitalizations following visits followed a similar downward trend among those under 15 (-10%) and those 15 and older (-3%).

  • Notable trends concern respiratory indicators. Among those under 15, visits are down for asthma attacks (-30%), suspected COVID-19 (-30%), and acute bronchitis (-10%), but are up for influenza/flu-like illness (+11%, or +16 visits). Among those aged 15 and older, visits for asthma attacks are stable but remain at higher levels than in previous years. Visits are on the rise for suspected COVID-19 (+10%) and acute bronchitis (+12%), and stable for influenza/flu-like illness. Among those aged 75 and older, the trend in indicators is more pronounced for suspected COVID-19 (+20%) and influenza/flu-like illness (+24%).

  • Among other respiratory indicators, it is worth noting a stabilization in visits for bronchiolitis compared to the previous week among children under 2 years of age, marking a departure from previous years when the trend remained upward. Visits for pertussis are down among children under 15 (-14%) and among those 15 and older (-29%), while remaining at levels much higher than in previous years.
