Summary
During week 46 (November 13–19, 2017), all-cause activity and hospitalizations following visits increased among children under 15 years of age (+14%, or +11,353 visits, and +15%, or +481 hospitalizations, respectively). Activity remained stable among adults.
Among seasonal conditions, with the exception of allergies, respiratory conditions are rising sharply among children. Among children aged 2–14, and to a lesser extent among those under 2, there has been an increase in visits for asthma (+89% among 2–14-year-olds), acute bronchitis (+55%), and ENT conditions (+33%). Also among 2- to 14-year-olds, there has been an increase in visits for isolated fever (+19%) and general malaise (+14%). Bronchiolitis continues to rise (+34%, or 652 more visits) among children under 2. Visits for general malaise are increasing among adults aged 15–74, though at a slower rate (+6%). Finally, there was an increase in gastroenteritis across all age groups except among those aged 75 and older (+14% among children under 2, +23% among 2- to 14-year-olds, and +9% among 15- to 74-year-olds).
Apart from seasonal conditions, among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits: - among children under 2 years of age for pneumonia (+44%) and among those aged 2–14 for trauma (+15%), abdominal pain (+11%), and neurological disorders (7%),- among adults aged 15–74 for chest pain (+6%) and among those aged 75 and older for cardiac decompensation (+7%).
