Key Points
In week 45 (November 4–10, 2024), emergency department visits increased compared to the previous week among children under 15 years of age (+9%, or +7,230 visits), and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits followed the same trend.
The increase in visits among children is mainly driven by respiratory conditions: ENT infections (+28%, or +2,331 visits), asthma attacks (+60%, or +1,439 visits), pneumonia (+46%, or 275 visits), acute bronchitis (+46%, or +142 visits), cough (+39%, or +384 visits), bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (+44%, or +733 visits), and influenza/influenza-like illness (+61%, or +141 visits). The share of activity for these various indicators remains at levels comparable to (or even lower than, for ENT infections, bronchitis, and bronchiolitis) those observed in previous years.
Among adults, respiratory indicators remain stable, except for visits for asthma attacks (+9%, or +119 visits) and influenza/flu-like illness (+25%, or +130 visits).
Furthermore, among children, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+15%, or +452 visits), gastroenteritis (+9%, or +167 visits), and vomiting among 2- to 14-year-olds (10%, or +62 visits).
