Key Points
In week 45 (November 4–10, 2024), emergency department visits decreased compared to the previous week among children under 2 years of age (-11%, or 2,573 fewer visits), increased among children aged 2 to 14 years (+19%, or 9,510 more visits), and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency room visits follow the same trend.
Most respiratory indicators are stable or declining. However, there was an increase in asthma-related visits among 2- to 14-year-olds (+21%, or +281 visits), coinciding with the start of the school year, as well as an increase in visits for influenza/flu-like illness among children under 15, though the numbers remain low (+34%, or +52 visits).
Other notable indicators include:
among children under 15, an increase in visits for suicide attempts (+53%, or +72 visits) and feeling unwell (+32%, or +174 visits);
among those aged 2–14, an increase in visits for trauma (+31%, or +4,835 visits), nonspecific abdominal pain (+37%, or +723 visits), specific abdominal pain (+24%, or +208 visits), and neurological problems (+32%, or +232 visits);
among those over 75, an increase in visits for dehydration (+31%, or +41 visits).
