Summary

  • In week 18 of 2017 (May 1–7), emergency department visits for all causes and hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.

  • Among seasonal conditions, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+8%), ENT disorders (+8%), bronchitis (+15%), and asthma (+22%) among children. Additionally, cases of general malaise have been rising (+17%) among 2- to 14-year-olds for two consecutive weeks. Among adults, with the exception of a slight increase in ENT disorders (+9%) and allergies among those aged 75 and older (+34%, corresponding to 21 visits), seasonal conditions are stable or declining.

  • Apart from the seasonal conditions mentioned above, the most frequently seen conditions in emergency departments are generally stable or decreasing among children. However, among children under 2 years of age, there was an increase in visits for urinary tract infections (+38%), chickenpox (+14%), and other dermatological issues (+9%). Among adults, the most common conditions are all stable or declining, with the exception of anxiety disorders among adults aged 15 to 74 (+7%).
