Summary
In week 18 (April 29–May 5, 2019), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following visits decreased among children under 2 years of age (by 12%, or 2,739 visits, and by 13%, or 423 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.
Over the past week, the few increases were mainly observed among children for general malaise (+22%, or +85 visits among 2- to 14-year-olds), insect bites (+17%, or +39 visits, among children under 15), and viral meningitis (12 visits in Week 18 compared to 5 in Week 17 among 2- to 14-year-olds). Among adults, there were also some increases, notably for allergies (+20%, or 16 more visits) among those aged 75 and older, and for measles (+61%, or 14 more visits) and chickenpox (+11%, or 93 more visits) among those aged 15–74.
Among the most common conditions, the only increases in visits were for trauma (+13%) and abdominal pain (+10%) among children aged 2–14.
