Key Points

  • In Week 20 (May 13–19, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits increased slightly among children aged 2–14 (+7% and +12%, respectively, or 4,514 visits and 600 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.

  • Most indicators were stable or declining across all age groups. A few increases were observed, ranging from low to moderate, notably: malaise and neurological disorders (headaches and dizziness, in particular) among children aged 2–14 (+25% and +24%) and adults aged 15–74 (+9% and +10%), asthma attacks among those aged 15–74 (+11%) and abdominal pain, primarily among those aged 2–14 (+20%). Visits for suspected COVID-19 rose slightly for the fifth consecutive week (+8% across all ages) but remained at a lower level than in previous years.

  • Visits for suicidal behavior, meanwhile, rose more sharply among children under 15 (+63%, or 92 incidents) and adults (+22%, or 283 visits), but remained at levels comparable to those of previous years.

  • Admissions for measles were down, with 14 admissions across all age groups in S20 compared to 20 and 21 in S19 and S18.
