Summary
In Week 19 (May 10–16, 2021), the number of visits and hospitalizations following visits increased among children under 2 years of age (+15%, or +2,346 visits, and +12%, or +316 hospitalizations) and remained stable in other age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups and their share of total activity have declined for the fifth consecutive week (4,724 vs. 6,613 visits in Week 18, a decrease of 29%, and 1.7% vs. 2.4% in Week 18). This decline affects all age groups: -10% among children (i.e., -14 visits) and -29% among adults (i.e., -1,875 visits). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups is slightly down (54% vs. 57% in Week 18). At the regional level, visits for suspected COVID-19 are down in all regions, except in Guadeloupe (stable) and French Guiana, where they continue to rise (+23%, or +27 visits). Since the start of surveillance on February 24, 2020, 486,805 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Among other conditions: across all age groups, there has been an increase in visits for conjunctivitis (+23%) and allergies (+15%):
Among children, there has been an increase in visits for asthma attacks (+39%), ENT infections (+34%), and gastroenteritis (+13%)
Among adults, increases were rare and moderate: skin infections +12%, urinary tract infections +7%
