Key Points

In Week 09 (February 23 to March 1), the number of emergency department visits and hospitalizations following a visit remained stable compared to the previous week across all age groups, except among children under 2 years of age, where the number of hospitalizations following a visit decreased (-7%, or 230 fewer hospitalizations).

Over the past week, there was an increase in visits for:

  • Trauma in all age groups (+13%, or +7,766 visits),

  • Conjunctivitis in all age groups (+20%, or +155 visits),

  • Dehydration across all age groups (+24%, or +71 visits), particularly among children under 2 years of age (+43%, or +13 visits) and those aged 75 and older (+24%, or +33 visits),

  • Chickenpox (+18%, or +26 visits) and general malaise (+17%, or +33 visits) in children under 2 years of age,

  • Skin/subcutaneous infections among 2- to 14-year-olds (+9%, or +56 visits),

  • ENT infections (+23%, or +29 visits) and isolated fever (+6%, or +20 visits) among those aged 75 and older.

Conversely, visits for all respiratory conditions were down compared to the previous week.
