Summary

In Week 12 (March 19–25, 2018), all-cause emergency department visits and hospitalizations following a visit remained stable among children and decreased among adults (particularly among people aged 75 and older: -4,168 visits, or -7.8% compared to the previous week, and -1,462 hospitalizations, or -5.6%).

Seasonal conditions are mostly stable or declining across all age groups, with the exception of visits for acute bronchitis, which rose by 25% among children aged 2–14 (i.e., +49 visits), and for asthma attacks among children under 15 (+6.3%, or +87 visits). The decline in respiratory conditions (pneumonia, bronchitis) among adults continues, with activity levels returning to those observed during the same period in 2016. Visits for influenza/flu-like illness continue to decline across all age groups.

Overall, the most common conditions are declining among adults and stable or declining among children aged 2–14. Among children under 2 years of age, the only notable increase is in visits for urinary tract infections (+33%, or +69 visits).
