Key Points

  • In Week 22 (May 27–June 2, 2024), emergency room visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • Among respiratory indicators, the following were noted:

    • Among children, an increase in visits for asthma attacks (+11%, or +226 visits), cough (+10%, or +112 visits), acute bronchitis (+19%, or +42 visits), and among children under 2 years of age for suspected COVID-19 infection (+18%, or +9 visits).

    • Among adults, there was an increase in visits for suspected COVID-19 infection (+39%, or +197 visits).

  • Among other indicators, we note:

    • Among children, an increase in visits for specific abdominal pain (+8%, or +132 visits); among children under 2 years of age, an increase in visits for ENT infections (+5%, or +146 visits), and among those aged 2–14, an increase in visits for nonspecific abdominal pain (+6%, or +192 visits) and other neurological conditions (+10%, or +103 visits).

    • Among adults aged 75 and older, there was an increase in visits for specific abdominal pain (+6%, or +116 visits) and cardiac decompensation (+6%, or +76 visits).

  • Visits for suspected COVID-19 continued to rise for the seventh consecutive week (791 vs. 585 visits in Week 21, or +35% across all ages) but remain at a lower level than in previous years. Visits for measles across all ages increased from 10 visits in Week 21 to 17 visits in Week 22.
