Key Points
In Week 24 (June 10–16, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 continued to rise, though at a slower pace than in Week 23 (+19% across all ages vs. +54% in Week 23), with 1,440 visits recorded (vs. 1,214 in Week 23). However, only adults were affected (+23% and 1,273 visits in Week 24). The share of activity remains modest (0.4%) but has been rising for nine weeks (0.12% of emergency department activity in S20 and 0.05% in S15).
Among other respiratory indicators, with low case numbers, there was an increase in visits for bronchitis among children (+12%, or +32 visits) and, more specifically among 2- to 14-year-olds, visits for influenza/flu-like illness and pneumonia (up 24% and 14%, respectively, or +23 and +78 visits); with the latter remaining at levels slightly higher than those of previous years for both adults and children.
Among other indicators, there were a few moderate increases, notably gastroenteritis and vomiting in children under 2 years of age (up 8% and 6%, respectively), chickenpox in children under 15 years of age (up 15%), and asthma attacks in those aged 15–74 (up 10%).
Visits for viral meningitis continued to rise (+21% across all age groups), with 97 visits in S24 compared to 82 in S23.
