Summary

In Week 24 (June 10–16, 2019), total emergency department activity remained stable across all age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits were stable among children and slightly lower among adults (-5%, or 3,091 fewer hospitalizations).

Over the past week, indicators were mostly stable or declining across all age groups. However, among seasonal indicators, there was an increase in emergency department visits for:

  • insect bites and conjunctivitis among children under 2 years of age (up 45%, or 29 visits, and up 15%, or 23 visits, respectively);

  • chickenpox among 15- to 74-year-olds (+17.5%, or +11 visits).

Among the non-specific indicators, there was a slight increase in visits for isolated fever among children aged 2–14 (+9.5%, or +124 visits).

The most common conditions remain generally stable across all age groups. The only notable trend is a slight increase in visits for abdominal pain (+13%) and vomiting (+8%) among children under 2 years of age.
