Summary

In Week 24 (June 8–14, 2020), following four consecutive weeks of increases since the lifting of lockdown restrictions and one week of stabilization, emergency department visits are down. Hospitalizations following visits rose slightly (down 3.0% and up 1.2%, respectively, compared to Week 23).
Over the past week, 2,066 emergency department visits across all age groups for suspected COVID-19 were recorded (vs. 2,745 visits in Week 23—consolidated data—representing a 25% decrease). Their share of total activity is down slightly: 0.9% in Week 24 compared to 1.1% in Week 23. The proportion of hospitalizations following visits is also down to 32% (vs. 36% in Week 23 – consolidated data).
By region, of all visits for suspected COVID-19, 38% were recorded in Île-de-France, 7% in Grand-Est and Pays de la Loire, and 6% in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and French Guiana.
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 168,632 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

Among other conditions seen in emergency departments, the following were observed:

  • Among those aged 65 and older, an increase in strokes (+5%, or +103 visits).

  • Among children, a slight increase in chest pain (+17%, or +43 visits) and anxiety disorders (+10%, or +14 visits).

Finally, there was a decrease in visits for allergies, asthma, bronchitis, and gastroenteritis across all age groups, as well as for trauma among adults.
