Key Points

  • In Week 23 (June 3–10, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable across all age groups, except among those aged 2–14 (+8%).

  • Visits for suspected COVID-19 are rising sharply across all age groups (+52%), particularly among those under 15 (+123%, or +95 visits). The proportion of activity remains modest (0.34) but has been rising for eight weeks (0.12% of emergency department activity in Week 20 and 0.05% in Week 15).

  • Among other respiratory indicators, visits for influenza/flu-like illness are also on the rise, both among those under 15 (+40%) and among those 15 and older (+26%). It is worth noting an increase in visits for acute bronchitis among those aged 15 and older (+14%), as well as for ENT conditions among those under 15 (+13%). Visits for pneumonia remain slightly higher than in previous years and stable.

  • Regarding seasonal indicators, visits for allergies (+13%) and asthma attacks (+12%) are increasing across all age groups. Visits for conjunctivitis are increasing only among those under 15 (+32%), as are those for isolated fever (+19%).

  • Visits for viral meningitis increased by 40% across all age groups, rising from 25 to 39 visits among those under 15 and from 32 to 41 visits among those 15 and older.
