Key Points
In Week 27 (July 1–7, 2024), visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits are down among children and stable or down among adults.
The vast majority of the most common conditions and seasonal indicators are declining. All respiratory indicators are stable or declining, with the exception of pertussis, which is on the rise among children under 2 years of age (+29%, or +23 visits) and among adults aged 15 and older (+48%, or +40 visits). The figures remain significantly higher than in previous years.
Among other indicators, particularly infectious diseases, the following are observed:
Across all age groups, a decline in emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 for the first time in many weeks, with 1,910 visits in Week 27 vs. 2,239 in Week 26 (-15%) and a share of total activity of 0.55% in Week 27 vs. 0.62% in Week 26. This decline is more pronounced among adults (-17%) than among children (stable at -0.76%).
Across all age groups, there was an increase in visits for viral meningitis (+53%, or +51 visits), with the rate among children reaching the level of the peak of the 2023 seasonal epidemic recorded during the same period. However, the hospitalization rate remains generally stable, fluctuating between 61% and 68% over the past four weeks.
Among children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for chickenpox (+9%, or +38 visits), which has continued to rise steadily across all age groups for several weeks.
