Key Points

In week 27 (June 30–July 6, 2025), the number of emergency department visits decreased among 2- to 14-year-olds (-8%) and remained stable in other age groups. The number of hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

Amid the prolonged heatwave that affected parts of France during Week 27, an increase in emergency department visits was observed for the following indicators:

  • hyperthermia/heatstroke in children (+81%, or +100 visits) and adults (+112%, or +365 visits), with activity levels higher than in the three previous summers;

  • dehydration in children (+12%, or +11 visits) and adults (+48%, or +269 visits);

  • illness in children under 2 years of age (+7%, or +16 visits), those aged 15–74 (+8%, or +722 visits), and those aged 75 and older (+6%, or +296 visits), with activity rates higher than in the previous three years;

  • insect bites among children under 2 years old (+16%, or +13 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+19%, or +222 visits).

There was also an increase in emergency department visits for:

  • fever alone among children (+20%, or +915 visits) and those aged 15–74 (+8%, or +84 visits);

  • ENT conditions in children (+13%, or +1,073 visits) and adults (+9%, or +328 visits);

  • chickenpox among 2- to 14-year-olds (+12%, or +36 visits);

Finally, among adults aged 45 and older, there was an increase in visits due to suicide attempts (+11%, or +50 visits).
