Summary
In Week 30 (July 23–29), emergency room visits and hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Following a week marked by extreme heat, the following trends were observed: - among seasonal conditions, an increase in visits for hyperthermia and heatstroke across all age groups (all ages combined: +99%, or +233 visits) as well as related hospitalizations, insect bites (+16%) across all age groups, particularly among adults (+20%, or 458 visits), and burns among children under 2 years old (+27%, or 37 visits) and those aged 75 and older (+67%, or 16 visits). - Among non-specific indicators, there was an increase in visits for dehydration among adults (+45%, or +215 visits) and, to a lesser extent, among children aged 2–14 (+15%, or +7 visits), malaise among adults (+8%, or 794 more visits) and children under 2 years of age (+14%, or 18 more visits), and isolated fever among adults (+6%, or 96 more visits), with those aged 75 and older accounting for more than half of the increase (+58 visits).
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits among adults aged 15–74 for ENT conditions (+9%, or +299 visits), among children under 15 for vomiting (+17%, or 138 visits) and gastroenteritis (+6%, or 69 visits) exclusively among those aged 2–14, and among children under 2 for urinary tract infections (+11%, or 26 visits).
