Summary
In Week 30 (July 22–28, 2019), total activity and hospitalizations following emergency room visits rose slightly among those aged 75 and older (+4.6%, or +2,282 visits, and +6%, or +1,346 hospitalizations). These indicators remained stable in other age groups.
Over the past week, indicators related to the heat wave have risen sharply across all age groups
:- Hyperthermia/heatstroke (+427%, or +905 visits);
- Dehydration (+85%, or +474 visits), more pronounced among adults;
- General malaise (+23%, or +2,369 visits) ;
- Isolated fever (+7%, or +101 visits) only among adults.
Other indicators showing an increase are observed mainly among those aged 15–74: chickenpox (+29%, or +17 visits), insect bites (+25%, or +356 visits), and allergies (+9%, or +184 visits). Visits for asthma are on the rise (+18%, or +207 visits) in all age groups except among children under 2 years of age.
Among the most common conditions, the following increases in visits are noted
:- among children for gastroenteritis (+18%) and vomiting (+15%) ;
- among 2- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 74-year-olds for ENT infections (+12%);
- among adults for renal colic (+10%, among 15- to 74-year-olds only) and urinary tract infections (+8%) and pneumonia (+10%) among those aged 75 and older only.
