Summary
In Week 30 (July 20–26, 2020), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Over the past week, the number of visits across all age groups for suspected COVID-19 remained stable compared to the previous week (1,791 visits vs. 1,834 in Week 29). After an increase in Week 29, the number of visits among children returned to the levels seen in previous weeks. Among adults, this number is stable or declining, except among those aged 75 and older, where it increased by +23% (i.e., +50 visits). The proportion of COVID-19 visits across all age groups remains stable at 0.64% (vs. 0.65% in Week 29). The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit has increased to 30% (vs. 24% in Week 29 – consolidated data as of July 28, 2020). This increase applies only to adults.
Regionally, of all visits for suspected COVID-19, 29% were recorded in Île-de-France, 12% in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and 7% in Pays de la Loire.
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 177,241 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Among other conditions seen in emergency departments, linked to rising temperatures, there has been an increase in visits for dehydration among children aged 2–14 and adults (up 40% and 38%, respectively, or 14 and 36 visits), as well as for dehydration among adults (up 15%, or 47 visits). Also noteworthy is the increase in insect bites across all age groups (+10%, or 218 more visits).
