In Week 29 (July 19–25, 2021), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.
Visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups continued to rise for the fourth consecutive week (+93% in Week 29 vs. +80% in Week 28 and +17% in Week 27). In total, there were 3,933 visits (vs. 2,043 in Week 28, an increase of 1,890 visits), with the proportion of activity also rising (1.2% vs. 0.7% in Week 28). This increase is observed across all age groups, including children (+113%, or +89 visits) and adults (+92%, or +1,801 visits). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits across all age groups has decreased to 33% (vs. 35% in Week 28). At the regional level, emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 are on the rise in all regions except French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte. The sharpest increases are observed in PACA (+157%, or +496 visits), Occitanie (+100%, or +322 visits), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+133%, or +300 visits), Île-de-France (+38%, or +192 visits), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+138%, or +181 visits). Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 509,612 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Many seasonal or non-specific indicators are on the rise. Across all age groups, there has been an increase in visits for hyperthermia and heatstroke (+149%, or +164 visits), dehydration (+27%, or +108 visits), and isolated fever (+9%, or +431 visits). Among children and adults under 75, there has been an increase in visits for insect bites (+47%, or +769 visits) and allergies (+12%, or +335 visits). Illnesses are also on the rise among 2- to 14-year-olds (15%, or 68 more visits) and 15- to 44-year-olds (+11%, or 782 more visits). Among the most common conditions, there has been an increase in digestive symptoms (+9% for gastroenteritis and vomiting) in children and respiratory conditions (+10% for pneumonia, dyspnea, and respiratory failure) in those aged 75 and older.
