Key Points

  • In Week 29 (July 15–21, 2024), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable among both children and adults.

  • Among seasonal indicators, the following were noted:

    • for the second consecutive week across all age groups, an increase in visits for insect bites (+21%, or +271 visits across all ages) and hyperthermia/heatstroke (+97%, or +147 visits), as well as for allergies among those aged 15–74 (+11%, or +204 visits) and for dehydration among those over 75 (+17%, or +31 visits), linked to rising temperatures in many regions;

    • among children aged 2–14, an increase in visits for chickenpox (+13%, or +41 visits).

  • Among respiratory indicators, there was a decrease in visits for whooping cough among children under 2 years old (-17%, or -18 visits), while numbers remained stable among 2- to 14-year-olds and increased among adults (+11%, or +10 visits). These visit numbers remain at levels significantly higher than in previous years across all age groups.

  • Visits for suspected COVID-19 are rising again among children (+21%, or +53 visits), while numbers remain stable among adults.

  • Among other indicators, the following stand out:

    • an increase in visits for urinary tract infections, albeit with small numbers, among children under 2 years old (+10%, or +30 visits) and for skin infections among adults aged 15–74 (+7%, or +326 visits);

    • a decrease for the second consecutive week in visits for viral meningitis among children aged 2–14 (-43%, or 21 fewer visits).
