Summary

In Week 29 (July 13–19, 2020), emergency room visits and hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.

Over the past week, the number of visits across all age groups for suspected COVID-19 increased by 26% (1,914 vs. 1,515 in Week 28). After a week of decline among children, the number of visits began to rise again (+37%, or 38 more visits). Among adults, this marks the second consecutive week of increase (following an uninterrupted decline that began in Week 13) for those aged 15–74 (+26%, or +361 visits). The proportion of COVID-19 visits across all age groups rose to 0.68% (vs. 0.54% in Week 28). The proportion of hospitalizations following visits decreased to 26% (vs. 32% in Week 28 – consolidated data as of July 21, 2020).
By region, of all visits for suspected COVID-19, 25% were recorded in Île-de-France, 11% in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, and 9% in Pays de la Loire. The sharpest increases were observed in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+75%), Pays de la Loire, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Occitanie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and Île-de-France (+43%).
Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 175,008 emergency room visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.

Among other conditions seen in emergency departments, there has been an increase in visits for asthma attacks (+20%, or +141 visits) and isolated fever (+12%, or +172 visits) among adults. Notably, there has been an increase in visits for arthropod bites among children under 2 years of age (+73%, or +48 visits) and for allergies among children aged 2–14 and adults (+11%, or +283 visits).
