Summary

  • Emergency room visits and hospitalizations for all causes are on the rise across all age groups, up 6% (or 19,422 visits) and 3% (or 2,143 hospitalizations), respectively.

  • Among children under 15, emergency department visits are rising for gastrointestinal conditions, particularly gastroenteritis (+18%, or +817 visits, and +20%, or +174 hospitalizations).

  • Among adults over 15 years of age, all major diagnoses seen in emergency departments are on the rise, particularly urinary tract infections (+9%), pneumonia (+6%), and trauma (+6%).

  • Among adults aged 75 and older, emergency department visits for isolated fever, bronchitis, and pneumonia have increased moderately in terms of both visits and hospitalizations.

  • Visits and hospitalizations for influenza are generally stable, though there is a slight decline among adults aged 15 to 74. Across all age groups, the proportion of hospitalizations for influenza among all influenza-related visits remains well above that of the previous two years.
