Key Points

• In Week 03 (January 13–19, 2025), compared to the previous week, emergency room visits and hospitalizations following such visits continued to rise among children aged 2–14 (+11%, or 6,646 more visits, and +8%, or 426 more hospitalizations). They remained stable among children under 2 and adults aged 15–74, and declined slightly among those aged 75 and older (-6%). Among people aged 75 and older, the number of hospitalizations is approaching the levels observed in the previous two years.

• In this second week of the school year, the rise in indicators mainly affects children aged 2–14. Regarding respiratory conditions, there was a sharp increase in visits for influenza/flu-like illness (+37%, or 1,291 more visits), ENT disorders (+19%, or 950 more visits), and to a lesser extent for acute bronchitis (+9%, or 16 more visits), pneumonia in children under 15 (+9%, or 46 additional visits), and COVID-19 in children under 2 (+11%, or 8 additional visits).

• Also linked to the return to school, there was an increase in visits for asthma attacks among 2- to 14-year-olds (+44%, or +399 visits) and, to a lesser extent, among children under 2 years of age (+8%, or +39 visits).

• Excluding respiratory conditions, among children aged 2–14, there was an increase in visits for isolated fever (+22%, or +508 visits), malaise (+17%, or +98 visits), and dehydration (+63%, or +32 visits).

• Among children and adults, there was an increase in visits due to trauma among those aged 2–14 and 15–64 (+10%, or +6,774 visits).

• Whooping cough has stabilized, with a low number of cases, though the rate remains higher than in previous years.
