Trends in Overall Activity: The number of visits and hospitalizations remains stable across all age groups. The total number of cases, across all ages, is higher than that observed during the same period in 2013 and 2014.

Trends in the most common conditionsThe main conditions seen in emergency departments are stable or declining across all age groups. Note an increase in visits for influenza/flu-like illness among children under 2 years of age and for acute bronchitis among adults over 75 years of age.

Trends in seasonal indicatorsVisits to emergency departments for influenza/influenza-like illness continued to rise across all age groups over the past week (5,726 weekly visits, +16% or +809 visits), but the increase is more pronounced among adults over 75 years of age (+70% or +133 visits) and among children under 2 years of age. The numbers are significantly higher than those in 2012 and 2013. At the regional level, flu-related emergency room activity is on the rise in all regions, particularly in the Île-de-France, West, and Southeast regions. Hospitalizations are also on the rise (+38%, or +151 hospitalizations across all age groups), particularly among those over 75, who account for one-third of flu-related hospitalizations (+62%, or +69 hospitalizations).Emergency room visits for acute bronchitis are up 12% (or 101 more visits) among adults over 75 but remain stable in other age groups. Visits for pneumonia have stabilized across all age groups over the past week. For these two indicators, however, activity remains significantly higher than in 2012 and 2013 during this period.Emergency department visits for other seasonal indicators (ENT infections, asthma, bronchiolitis, isolated fever, and gastroenteritis) are stable or declining across all age groups, within expected seasonal ranges, except for ENT infections, for which activity is higher.
