Summary

In Week 7 (February 10–16, 2020), the first week of school vacation, emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits decreased among children aged 2–14 (by 9% and 3%, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.

Among respiratory system indicators, there was a decrease in visits for influenza/flu-like illness during the first week among 2- to 14-year-olds and a stabilization for the second consecutive week among 15- to 74-year-olds. Among children under 2 and those aged 75 and older, visits are still rising but at low levels (+72 and +75 visits, respectively). There is also a moderate increase in visits for pneumonia among those aged 15–74 (+8%, or +168 visits).

Among other conditions, there was a slight increase in visits for:

• Gastroenteritis among children under 2 years of age (+6%, or +97 visits) and vomiting among those aged 75 and older (+17%, or +41 visits);

• Skin infections among those aged 15–74 (+6%, or 90 more visits);

• Chest pain in those aged 75 and older (+7%, or +87 visits).
