Summary
In week 06 (February 8–14, 2021), there was a decrease in emergency room visits and hospitalizations following visits among children aged 2–14 (after 4 weeks of increases) (-12%, or -1,209 visits, and -10%, or -458 hospitalizations). Emergency room visits and hospitalizations following visits remained stable in other age groups.
In Week 06, visits for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups were down (-11%), as was their share of total activity (6,683 visits and a 2.8% share of activity in Week 06 vs. 7,521 visits and 3% in Week 05). This decline follows two consecutive weeks of increases and stabilization in W04 and W05. It applies to all age groups: -8% among those under 2 years old, -17% among 2- to 14-year-olds, -9% among 15- to 74-year-olds, and -16% among those 75 and older.
Suspected COVID-19 remains the 7th most common diagnosis among those aged 15–74 and the 3rd most common among those aged 75 and older. The proportion of hospitalizations following a visit across all age groups remains stable at 58%. At the regional level, visits for suspected COVID-19 continue to rise in Réunion (+42%, or +13 visits) and Mayotte (+82%, or +65 visits), as well as in Corsica (+33%, or +9 visits). Since monitoring began on February 24, 2020, 362,479 emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 have been recorded.
Among seasonal illnesses, there has been an increase in visits for bronchiolitis and bronchitis among children under 2 years of age (up 11%, or 136 visits, and up 32%, or 26 visits, respectively). There has also been an increase in visits for trauma among adults (+8%, or 2,331 visits) as well as a slight increase in visits for cough among children under 2 years of age (+14%, or 35 visits).
