Summary

In Week 6 (February 4–10, 2019), emergency department visits and subsequent hospitalizations remained stable across all age groups.

Visits for influenza/flu-like illness continued to rise sharply among adults aged 75 and older (+28%) and children under 2 years of age (+20%), and more moderately in other age groups (+10%). Across all age groups, the increase is 1,637 visits, and the percentage of hospitalizations following a visit remains stable at 15%. This percentage reaches 68% among adults aged 75 and older.

Among other seasonal conditions, notable increases were observed for: - gastroenteritis (+11%) in those aged 75 or older, - acute bronchitis (+9%, or +363 visits) in children aged 2–14, - infectious conjunctivitis (+7%) and vomiting (+6%) in adults, - allergies (+7%) across all age groups.

In addition, there was an increase in visits for urinary tract infections among children under 2 years of age (+11%) and adults aged 15–74 (+8%), as well as for abdominal pain among children aged 2–14 (+7%).
