Key Points
In Week 48 (November 25–December 1, 2024), there was an increase in emergency department visits among children under 15 (+8%, or 7,427 visits) and in hospitalizations following emergency department visits among children under 2 (+5%, or 182 hospitalizations) compared to the previous week. Among adults, emergency department visits remained stable.
The increase in visits linked to seasonal respiratory indicators continues among children, with the following increases noted:
among children under 15 for influenza/flu-like illness (+58%, or +287 visits), pneumonia (+27%, or +291 visits), and ENT conditions (+11%, or +1,257 visits);
among 2- to 14-year-olds for cough (+18%, or +158 visits);
among children under 2 years of age for bronchiolitis (+17%, or +535 visits) and asthma attacks (+18%, or +208 visits).
Among adults, these indicators are also rising, though less markedly: influenza/flu-like illness (+43%, or +356 visits), acute bronchitis (+14%, or +191 visits), and ENT conditions among those aged 15–74 only (+10%, or +285 visits).
Among other indicators, the following increases in visits are noteworthy:
among children under 15 for vomiting (+11%, or +131 visits) and among 2- to 14-year-olds for isolated fever and trauma (respectively +18% and +9%, or +311 and +1,735 visits);
among adults for fever alone (+12%, or +123 visits) and among those aged 75 and older for abdominal pain (+7%, or +111 visits).
