Summary

In week 48 (November 25–December 1), total emergency department activity continued to rise among children (+6%, or 5,639 visits) and remained stable among adults. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits also increased among children under 2 years of age (+13%, or 526), while remaining stable in other age groups.

Over the past week, increases comparable to those observed in previous years were noted in nearly all seasonal indicators for children and adults.

Of particular note is the rise in respiratory conditions (bronchiolitis, pneumonia, acute bronchitis, influenza/flu-like syndrome, and asthma), with increases ranging from +20% to +30% among children and from +10% to +15% among adults, with the exception of asthma, which saw a +38% increase among adults and a +20% increase among children under 2 years of age.

Regarding bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age, in addition to the 8 regions already declared to be in an epidemic (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Guadeloupe, and Martinique), four new regions have been added this week (Grand-Est, Normandy, Occitanie, and Pays-de-la-Loire). Bourgogne-Franche-Comté has entered the pre-epidemic phase.
