Key Points
In week 50 (December 11–17, 2023), visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups compared to the previous week.
Among seasonal respiratory indicators, only visits for influenza/influenza-like illness showed a marked increase in Week 50 (+71% among children and +33% among adults, representing 419 and 432 visits, respectively). Visits for suspected COVID-19 and bronchitis continued to rise moderately, respectively among children (+12%, or +72 visits) and among adults only (+8%, or +145 visits).
Among children, after a week of stabilization (-1% in Week 49), visits for pneumonia were slightly down in Week 50 (-9%, or -269 visits), but remained at a level well above that of previous years.
Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis were down for the second consecutive week (-12%, or -266 visits, vs. -9% in Week 49).
Among other indicators, as in Week 49, there was an increase in visits related to digestive conditions, primarily among children for gastroenteritis (+10%), vomiting (+10%), and abdominal pain in children aged 2–14 (+9%).
