Summary
In Week 31 (July 29–August 4, 2019), total activity and hospitalizations following emergency department visits declined among children (-5.6%, or 4,097 fewer visits, and -7.7%, or 532 fewer hospitalizations). Total activity remained stable among adults, and hospitalizations declined, particularly among those aged 75 and older (-8.5%).
Over the past week, all non-specific and seasonal indicators have decreased across all age groups. This is particularly notable for cases related to extreme heat
:- Hyperthermia/heatstroke (-86%, or 964 fewer visits);
- Dehydration (-49%, or 511 fewer visits);
- General malaise and isolated fever (-18%).
Among the most common conditions, there was an increase in visits for
:- abdominal pain in children under 2 years old (+8%) and those aged 75 or older (+9%);
- skin/subcutaneous infections in children aged 2–14 (+10%) ;
- neurological problems in adults aged 15–74 (+9%);
- chest pain in adults aged 75 and older (+16%).
